We are looking for talented amateurs to bring this original show to life and originate some fantastic roles representing the North of England.

We know that West Yorkshire has an incredible theatre scene and can't wait to work with actors, singers and dancers from across the area.  We hope you will relish the opportunity to originate some new roles and bring your talent to the process. A new show brings great flexibility and we want your input.

Below, you will find details of the characters and performers we are casting for, so if you think you fit the bill, please complete the Expression Of Interest form.

Auditions will take place on the 26th November & 3rd December 2023 with rehearsals starting at the beginning of January 2024. They will take place in The Limelight Studio, Rastrick on Tuesdays & Thursday nights and selected Sundays.

Show week will consist of:

Sunday 24th March: Band Call

Tuesday 26th March: Tech Run

Wednesday 27th March: Dress Run

Thursday 28th March: Show 1

Friday 29th March: Show 2

Saturday 30th March: Show 3

(with a potential Saturday Matinee TBD)

To help towards costs, there will be a £60 production fee due from all successful cast members.

Please see the actor requirements below:

Can't Go Back: Who Do We Need?

Some roles are already cast and we are now looking for a wide variety of talent including adults and children. Please see the character breakdown below.

Linda Taylor (Female Identifying. Playing age 55+)

Yorkshire born and bred, when we meet Linda, she's just completed a hospital stay due to complications with her Type 1 Diabetes. She's got a teasing sense of humour but is prone to malapropisms. The mother of lead character Jack, she's is glad he's home but guilty to have dragged him away from his job. The actor playing Linda must be a strong singer.

Mike Davereux (Male Identifying. Playing age 40+ but may be flexible)

A wannabe theatrical agent from the wrong side of the tracks (Lancashire.) Mike promises the world but always fails to deliver - except during his day job as a driver for Ikea. Equally adept at calling bingo and charming the ladies (or so he thinks) Mike imagines he’s a member of The Rat Pack but is more at home with a flat pack. Actor must be a strong singer and vocally dexterous as his songs are wordy!

Kyle Owens (Male Identifying. Playing age 18 - 25)

Kyle is a young rapper whose intricate lyrical style is totally unsuited to the club scene. He's talented and hardworking and takes all the awkward experiences he faces in his stride. In fact, they inspire him to greater success. The actor playing Kyle should have good vocal and excellent rapping skills. We are particularly interested in auditioning BAME actors for this role.

Derek Le Déjeuner (Male Identifying. Playing age 40+ but may be flexible)

A jobbing singer who's been on the club circuit for donkeys' years. Derek is Elvis, Tom Jones and Engelbert Humperdinck alll rolled into one but has the diction of Vic Reeves' iconic club singer. A well spoken Geordie offstage, when he starts to sing, nobody can understand a word. We are looking for a crooner for this role.

Adult Ensemble (Any Gender Identity. Playing age 18+)

We have fun roles for ensemble cast members to play the working men's club patrons and residents of Little Acklingborough village. We are open to actors of all ages but may need to age you up with costume in some scenes. Natural Yorkshire accents are preferred.

Young Adult Ensemble/Dancers (Female Identifying. Playing age 16+)

Strong dance ability and vocal ability required (ideally experienced with harmonies.) In some routines they will perform as an Andrews Sisters type trio, providing backing vocals.

Young Chorus (Any Gender Identity. Playing age 10 - 14)

Our show features a children's theatre group who are working towards a big show. We need talented children to play the elaborately named Benylin-Rose, Encanto Portabello Logflume and others. Good dance and vocal ability are required and tap experience would be extremely helpful!

WE WOULD ALSO LOVE TO HEAR FROM PEOPLE WHO WOULD LIKE TO HELP BACKSTAGE

Thank you! We’ll be in touch.

Once we receive your form, the next steps will be as follows:

We will contact all suitable applicants and offer them a solo audition slot. All auditions will be held at the Limelight Studio, Rastrick, HD6 3NF.

If you accept the slot, we will send you some character dialogue to perform on the day. We will also ask you to prepare two contrasting musical theatre songs, though due to time constraints we will probably only hear one on the day.

NOTE: If you are auditioning for the role of Kyle, we would like to hear you rap - either a pop song or ideally a musical theatre rap.

There will be an accompanist available on the day so we will ask you to bring music for your chosen tracks. If that's not possible, you can bring a backing track on your phone/tablet, CD or Memory Stick.

There will also be a full call dance audition on the same day where you will learn some choreography. Don't panic! Not all roles require superb dance ability but we would like to see how you move.

Your audition will consist of:

Character Dialogue Audition (Solo)

A chance to sing for us (Solo)

A dance audition (with other auditionees)

We want to see as much local talent as possible, so please, if you fancy joining us in creating something special, come along!
